We’ve gotten so fed up with the rest of the northern hemisphere rhapsodizing about cherry blossoms and warm breezes while here in Scotland we’re still huddling around our heaters, that we’ve decided to head off for a couple of weeks to find some sun.
Where are we going? Ah, for that you’ll just have to wait until we get back. Don’t you just love surprises? π
Oh, okay, I’ll give you some clues. It wouldn’t be any fun otherwise!
The country we are going to:
Has over 5,000 kilometers of coastline and more than 1,000 islands.
Is less than a four-hour flight from London.
Does not speak a Romance language.
Shares land borders with five other countries.
Tempts with specialties such as air-cured ham, bean stew with paprika and pork, and a spicy relish made from peppers and eggplant.
Has a cuisine I have never (knowingly) tasted before, which I suspect is probably the case for many of you too!
Any guesses?
Croatia! Have fun!
Either Turkey or Greece.
hum… croatia? π
I know! I know! But your secret is safe with me…By the way, Seattle is still very cold and wet. The weather report looks better for Edinburgh than for us back home.Have fun!Love, Mom
have fun and I can’t wait to hear about it upon your return!
greece π have fun!
Croatia! Thank you Google Maps!
you’re visitng my country: GREECE!!! have fun π
wherever you are going, Melissa have the time of your life!and… always remember there’s plenty of sun here in Israel too. You’d be welcome here. π
It’s definitely not Greece, as I’m pretty sure Melissa has had Greek food before (with all those Greeks in Churchill House!?)I’d go for Croatia, too.
croatia? lucky you
Definitely Croatia! π Btw, I’m Croatian, and I’m happy to answer any questions you may have, or suggest places to eat!
Forgot to add: have fun! I can’t wait to see the pictures! I find it very interesting to see familiar places through other people’s eyes.
Hmmm… While I’m trying to guess where you are, I wish you a good time, wherever you are! Paz
hungary?
I’ll be in Croatia this summer…my wife and I are really looking forward to it!Dominicthe zen kitchen
Croatia it has to be, it is known to be the "Land of a thousand islands". Enjoy yourself.
When you find the sun, please let us know – or describe some lovely spicy dish that will make us feel like summer. Last week it may have been a balmy 25C here in the Pacific Nortwet, but like your mom said, the current weather outlook for Ol’ Reeky was considerably better than ours. Today it snowed – and hailed – and rained…I’d even cozy up to a peat fire at this point.(smiling)

I was going to say somewhere in southeast asia, but from the looks of everyone else’s guesses I think I did not read the descriptors closely enough. I cannot wait to see pics of what you ate when you return.
Well, my first thought was Greece, but then I wanted to be more clever, so then I started wondering about Macedonia. But that many islands seems a bit much for a landlocked country, even with all those beautiful lakes.
La Grecia! Woohoo! Of course I wish you were coming back to Calabria though….
Oops, or Croatia…or…hmm…Indonesia?
Gah! Land borders. OK I’ll stop now π
Enjoy your travels and bring back some good food to share!xoxo, jaden
Dubai, Maybe? They have a conciderable amount of islands and coastal region. Not sure about the 5 boarders though, will have to look up. Amazing food I absolutely sure! Hope you had a wonderful time.
